This week we have had the welcome news that zoos will be able to re-open from next week. Many constituents have written to Greg specifically about ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, which is just outside the constituency in Bedfordshire. Greg is delighted zoos like Whipsnade will be able to open their doors to visitors once more, in a Covid-safe manner.
The Buckingham MP remains concerned, however, that other outdoor venues which could safely open, such as Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm & Eco Centre, also need to fully re-open. Green Dragon are currently relying on food donations for the animals from local people, which has been supported by Bernie the Bus's collections.
In a debate on Thursday 11th June 2020, Greg made that point to DEFRA Minister Rebecca Pow in the House of Commons, highlighting the urgency, and received an assurance that the government are actively looking at ways to allow venues such as Green Dragon to open soon.
Commenting, Greg said: "It is vital that we get back to normal life as soon as it is safe to do so - and with non-essential retail and zoos opening from next week, I will keep pushing for other venues and services to open up as soon as possible, most importantly getting as many children back into school as fast as we can."
