On Wednesday 9th September it was Back British Farming Day!
Greg was extremely proud to wear the Back British Farming pin badge in support of the farming sector that is so valuable not just to Buckinghamshire but to the whole country.
British farmers and growers are proud to produce safe, traceable and nutritious food we all love to eat to world-leading standards, as well as maintaining the iconic British countryside and sustaining a dynamic rural economy.
Farmers were rightly identified as key workers during the Coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to those farmers in the Buckingham constituency, and the wider food supply chain, we were able to ensure supermarket shelves were kept stocked and the nation was fed during this difficult time. Greg remains very grateful for all that they have done and continue to do.
He is enormously optimistic about the future of British farming. The UK gets get to set our own agricultural policy - in the British interest - for the first time in 40 years. And we get to open up new markets around the world, to sell our fantastic British produce as a premium product. Greg understands that some are worried about food standards - and has made sure in discussions with Defra and Trade Ministers that there is no chance any food standards will be lowered as we leave the EU. In fact the standards we enjoy today will be maintained as the very same regulations that apply today will transfer into British law at the end of the transition period.
So let's celebrate all our farmers: and the best way to do that is to buy British and to buy local!
