Mid Buckinghamshire is proudly an RAF constituency - home to RAF High Wycombe (including UK Space Command) and RAF Halton. With the Defence Investment Plan finally revealed today - whilst I have many concerns that defence spending is not rising anywhere near quickly enough - there were commitments in it around aircraft, drone innovation and space. The Defence Secretary in his statement rightly said our armed forces personnel are our most important asset - but of course as part of that training is critical. With RAF Halton, a training base, scheduled for closure - I asked him where that fits with the Defence Investment Plan. My view is we need it open for the long term and I look forward to him getting back to me as promised.
