I attended Mencap’s Parliamentary Reception to mark its 80th anniversary and Learning Disability Week 2026 (15 June to 21 June).
Campaigners and Mencap Network Partners from across England and Wales gathered with MPs and Peers to talk about the journey the learning disability community has been on since Mencap’s beginnings in 1946, celebrate the milestones and wins, and reflect on the work still needed to improve the lives of people with a learning disability.
This year’s Learning Disability Week theme, ‘Do You See Me?’, aims to ensure the 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK are seen, heard and valued.
