Greg calls for police costs reclaim from individuals & groups when protest turns to criminality

The right to peaceful protest is an important part of our democracy and should be protected. Sadly, there have been examples recently where protest has turned to criminality, such as the blockades of newspaper print works over the weekend. This puts an unacceptable burden on our police, taking them away from other priorities. After a statement by Policing Minister Kit Malthouse in the House of Commons yesterday (7th September 2020), Greg asked for new legislation that could enable policing costs to be charged back to individuals and campaign groups when criminal acts (rather than legitimate, peaceful protest) happens in their name.
