Many businesses have contacted me concerned about impending tariffs on steel products not made in the UK that their products are reliant upon, particularly in the defence and aerospace industries. I have spoken about this before with Trade Ministers, but this morning challenged the Chancellor to ensure if the situation is not rectified, what else the Treasury will do to ensure those businesses don’t become completely unviable. Her answer didn’t seem to demonstrate that she understood the question at all - failing to recognise steel grades and products simply not made in the UK.
